Privacy Policy

This policy describes what Anchorcost collects, why, and who receives it. It is written to match what the site actually does rather than to cover every eventuality, so it is shorter than most.

The short version

You can use every calculator on this site without giving us anything. The estimate appears in full before we ask for a name. If you do choose to submit your details, we share them with home improvement companies who pay us for the introduction. That is our business model and we would rather say so plainly than bury it.

What we collect

Nothing identifying until you reach the contact step and submit it.

Information you give us

• Your name, email address and phone number
• Your ZIP code
• Details of the project, type of work, size, finish level, extras and timing
• The estimate range the calculator produced for you

Information collected automatically when you submit

These are recorded only at the moment you submit the form, because we are required to be able to evidence that you consented. They are not collected while you browse.

• Your IP address
• Your browser's user agent string
• The page you submitted from
• The exact consent wording shown to you, and the date and time

What we do not collect

• No advertising cookies, and no ad networks. We do not run ads, do not build advertising audiences, and Google Signals and ad personalisation are switched off on our analytics account.
• A theme preference in local storage. One item recording whether you chose light or dark mode. It never leaves your browser and identifies nobody.
• Our own usage counts. How often each calculator is opened, started, completed and submitted. A count is all it is: a date, which calculator, which of those four steps, and a number. No cookie, no identifier, no IP address, no time more precise than the day. Two people using the same calculator on the same day are indistinguishable in it. This runs whether or not you accept analytics, because it identifies nobody.
• No tracking pixels, and no third-party advertising networks.
• We do not ask for and do not want financial information, government identifiers, or anything about your health.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which calculators people find useful and where they give up. This is a change: for a period this site ran on nothing but the anonymous counts described above, and said so here. It now uses Google as well, and this section says plainly what that means rather than leaving the old wording in place.

What it collects when you allow it:

• A randomly generated identifier stored in a cookie, so repeat visits can be recognised as the same browser.
• Which pages you viewed, in what order, and for how long.
• Your approximate location, derived from your IP address, at city level.
• Your device, browser and screen size, and how you arrived: a search, a link, or directly.
• The moment an estimate is shown and whether a form was submitted.

Google processes this on our behalf and is a recipient of that data. IP addresses are truncated before storage. We have switched off Google Signals and advertising personalisation, so this data is not used to build advertising audiences, and we do not run remarketing.

Your choice, and how it defaults:

• In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, nothing is stored until you accept. You will be asked, and declining is one click in the same place and the same size as accepting.
• Elsewhere, analytics is on by default and you can turn it off at any time from the banner or by emailing us.
• If your browser sends Global Privacy Control, analytics stays off and you are never asked. Signalling an opt-out and then being prompted to opt in is not a real choice, so we do not do it.

Declining changes nothing about the site. There is no gate, no reduced functionality, and no repeated prompt.

How we use it

• To pass your project enquiry to companies who can quote for it
• To keep a record that you consented to be contacted
• To detect and block automated form abuse
• To understand which calculators people find useful, and where visitors give up, both in aggregate and through Google Analytics where you have allowed it

We do not send marketing email of our own, and we do not build a profile of you across other websites.

Who we share it with

When you submit the form, your details go to home improvement professionals and to lead networks that distribute enquiries to their own contractor members. Depending on the network, up to four companies may receive your enquiry and contact you about it.

We publish the current recipients on the partners page, and it is kept up to date as that list changes.

We also rely on service providers who process data on our behalf. Cloudflare hosts the site and stores submissions. Google provides the analytics described above. Cloudflare acts on our instructions and does not use your information for its own purposes; Google processes analytics data under its own terms as well as ours, which is why it is described separately and why you can decline it.

Do we sell your information?

Yes, in the sense the law means. California and several other states define a "sale" as disclosing personal information for something of value. We are paid for the introductions we make, so that is what this is, and we are not going to argue the point on a technicality.

You can tell us not to. See Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. Making that request does not stop you using the calculators, which never required an account.

How long we keep it

Submission records are retained for five years. That is longer than we need them commercially, and it is deliberate: the statute of limitations on a telephone consumer claim runs four years, and the record of your consent is the evidence that protects both of us. You can ask us to delete it sooner and we will, unless we are required to keep it for a live dispute.

Your rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

• Tell you what we hold about you
• Give you a copy of it
• Correct anything wrong
• Delete it
• Stop selling or sharing it

Email PLACEHOLDER, [email protected] not yet created. We will respond within 45 days, and we will not charge you or treat you differently for asking. If we need to verify who you are, we will only ask for what is necessary to match you to an existing record.

Once your enquiry has reached a contractor, we cannot delete it from their systems. We can tell you who received it so you can ask them directly.

Children

This site is for adults arranging work on property. We do not knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has submitted the form, email us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change affects how we share information already collected, we will contact people whose records are affected.
