Questions homeowners ask
How much does a full septic system cost?
For a three-bedroom house on a conventional gravity system, about $5,650 to $10,500, a midpoint near $8,100, which matches the national average published elsewhere. A mound system on the same house is closer to double, and that choice is usually made by the soil rather than by you.
How much is a septic tank for a 2000 sq ft house?
Floor area is not what sizes it, bedrooms are, because the county assumes roughly two people per bedroom. A 2,000 square foot house is usually three or four bedrooms, so $5,650 to $10,500 for three and around a third more for four. The tank itself is only about a fifth of that.
What is the most expensive part of a septic system?
The drainfield, at roughly 30% of the bill, with excavation close behind at about a quarter. The tank people focus on is around a fifth. This is why a failed drainfield is such bad news, it is the costliest part to replace and the part that fails first.
How often does a 2000 gallon septic tank need to be pumped?
Every three to five years for a typical household, longer for a tank that size serving few people. Pumping costs a few hundred dollars and is the cheapest thing you can do for a system. Solids carried into the drainfield are the usual reason it fails early, and the drainfield is the expensive part.
