Questions homeowners ask

How much does it cost to side a 1,500 sq ft house?

A 1,500 square foot house has roughly 1,700 square feet of siding. In vinyl at mid-range quality that runs about $7,300 to $11,400. Fibre cement on the same house is closer to $17,800.

How much does 2,000 sq ft of siding cost?

Around $9,450 to $14,800 in vinyl at mid-range quality. Note that 2,000 square feet of siding is not a 2,000 square foot house, wall area typically runs 110 to 120% of floor area, more with gables.

Is fibre cement worth the extra over vinyl?

It costs nearly twice as much, about $17,800 against $9,350 on a typical house, and lasts far longer, resists fire and holds paint well. The trade-off is weight and labour, which is where most of the extra goes.

Does the old siding have to come off first?

Usually, at about $1.20 per square foot on top. Installing over existing siding is sometimes possible with vinyl, but it hides rot and sheathing damage rather than fixing it, and rot repair found mid-job runs about $1,500.
